Guest: Anita Gillette Anita Gillette, the versatile comic actress who, for a time in the ‘70s was what we know now as a professional celebrity, appearing on television game shows and often on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, is bringing back her charming tell-all “After All.” Beginning Monday December 9 “After All” plays a two-week major engagement at The Metropolitan Room. Directed by Barry Kleinbort, Gillette is backed by a trio led by music director Paul Greenwood on piano, with Steve Doyle on bass and Steve Bartosik on drums. Gillette, who continues to make a name for herself with prominent roles on 30 Rock and Modern Family is really a Broadway baby. A veteran of 14 Broadway productions, she started out as a kittenish chorine in the original cast of “Gypsy” starring Ethel Merman, and went on to star in Neil Simon’s “Chapter Two,” for which she earned a Tony nomination. Along the way she was Sally Bowles in “Cabaret,” “Carnival!” “Mr. President,” and “Guys and Dolls.” Reviewing the premiere of “After All” in 2012, Woman Around Town’s Alix Cohen called Gillette “a red-headed bundle of dynamite, immensely likeable,” adding, “her timing is pitch-perfect.” Gillette’s film roles include Ms. Mona in “Moonstruck;” Jennifer Anniston’s mom in “She’s the One;” Bill Murray’s mom in “Larger Than Life,” and Jack Black’s mom in “Bob Roberts.” In addition to her run as celebrity guest on several popular television game shows including What’s My Line, Match Game, and the Pyramid series, she still enjoys wide exposure -- as Tina Fey’s mom on 30 Rock and Annie Fitzimmons in the the multi-award-winning hit Modern Family. Anita Gillette’s “After All” performs two consecutive Mondays & Tuesdays -- December 9 & 10 and 16 & 17, all at 7pm.
